Getting Fear Out of Your Way
Fear is the number one reason people don’t start talking to others. They fear they are going to say something stupid. They fear rejection: “They won’t be interested in talking to me.” They fear that they won’t be able to think of anything to say.
So I am going to share with you what I tell my coaching clients that say that: Get over it! A lot of your success in business is tied to your ability to build networks and connections. Allowing some irrational fears to get in your way is not acceptable. People do business with people they like and feel comfortable with.
The best way to defeat this fear is to practice. Get out there and start talking to strangers. Introduce yourself, hand over your business card, ask some questions. The more you do this, the more comfortable and confident you will be. And since many people are worrying about the same stuff, the fact that you take the lead and start a conversation with them, means you are less likely to be rejected.
